TextbooksRus.com Launches Instagram Photo Contest

We’re very proud to announce our latest social media project with TextbooksRus.com, an Instagram Photo Contest. Introduced on the TextbooksRus.com website and through Facebook on June 15, the promotion utilizes Instagram and Twitter APIs (Application Programming Interface) to automatically pull images based on a specific hashtag (#textbooksrus). Participants are able to upload and share pictures of their summer adventures to the contest via Instagram, but must use the specific hashtag. By sharing the photo with family and friends, participants can gain votes and be entered to win a variety of prizes. Instagram was chosen as the venue because of its 30 million registered users and receives over 5 million photos per day, many of which are posted by 18-25 year olds.

Photos can be submitted now through July 30, 2012. Users who submit pictures can ask their friends and family to vote at the website where voters can submit one vote per day by logging in with their Facebook account. The top 10 photos with the most votes will win cash prizes and TextbooksRus.com store credit. Voting for the TextbooksRus.com summer photo contest ends August 9.

Quick Takes – Xtra Storage Rental Co. Website Launch

Quick takes are brief interviews with the C3 staff getting their insight into recently developed projects. Today, designer Paul Garcher answers questions about the newly launched website for Xtra Storage Rental Co.

What design challenges did you face in designing the Xtra Storage site?

I spent a lot of time on the content slides on the Homepage. This is the focal point of the site, so I wanted to make sure that each slide was laid out perfectly. I also wanted to make sure the site had a clean, minimalistic feel so as I was designing the site I stripped out design elements I felt detracted from that clean feeling.

How much creative freedom were you given with this project?

The client’s color palette was established so I had that to work within, but otherwise I was given a lot of freedom to design what I thought would work best for the client. This project was really fun because the client was receptive to our ideas and I think the end-result is a site that everyone is pleased with.

What fonts did you decide to use on this site?

The navigation and titles are PT Sans Narrow (Bold). I was looking to use a condensed sans-serif font and I selected PT Sans because it can be embedded to be viewed across most browsers. The content of the site is a standard sans-serif font. I like these font choices because they help give the site a clean, corporate feel.

What is your favorite feature of the site?

I love the content slider on the homepage. I think it effectively shows the company’s service offerings in a visually appealing way. If I could mention one other feature it would be the small red arrow that hovers over the navigation. I have to give Josh Cope the credit for creating the cool slide effect when scrolling over the navigation, I think it’s a nice little detail that adds some visual interest.

Meet the Ginger

Hello everyone! My name is Holly Fogarty and I am the C-3 Group’s new intern for the course of the summer. I am studying Mass Communications at Wright State University and I will graduate this August. I am honored and truly fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the wonderful and talented team at C-3. This is my second internship, but my first one outside of the university. There are so many things I will have a chance to learn and experience during my time with the C-3 Group that are invaluable.

Now on to a little bit more about me, because that’s what bios are really for, right?

I was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio as the oldest of six kids. I love having a big family, even when times get a little loud and hectic.

I graduated from Springfield North High School in 2008. I loved high school! I was so active with extracurriculars that the school was practically my second home. I was in multiple choirs, marching band, theater, and I was a cheerleader.

I love to read! I take my Kindle Fire with me everywhere I go, even if I know there’s no way I’ll have time to use it.

I spent my junior year of college as a resident assistant. Being an RA is an experience that will give you memories to last a lifetime. It was one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had.

I will listen to just about any musical artist, but turn on Justin Timberlake, the Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5 or Jason Mraz, and my ears are all yours!

My guilty pleasure is reality television. I get sucked in and get crazy with my DVR.

My last random fact is I love Starbucks. It makes my taste buds happy and who can argue with that?

I can’t wait to see what this summer has in store for me!
